Apprentice spotlight: Amandine Louvel

Why I chose an apprenticeship in Business...

Amandine has recently finished a Level 2 in Business Administration Apprenticeship at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. She shares how work-based-learning has helped her gain industry knowledge, and how working and studying in a business environment has helped towards her personal development.

We caught up with her to find out more about her apprenticeship journey…

Why did you decide on a Business Apprenticeship?

I wanted to do an apprenticeship in Business and Administration to expand my knowledge, and focus my career within the business sector. For my own personal development, it was a good way to complete the qualification while working at the same time.

What do you do on a daily basis?

As a Research Administrator, I work closely with the Research Nurses, Clinical Fellows and Chief Investigators to providing administrative support.

My main tasks includes database entry, maintenance of site files and participant study files. Booking study appointments, preparing agendas, organising quarterly meetings and taking accurate and detailed minutes.

How has the apprenticeship increased your skills and knowledge?

The apprenticeship has helped with my Maths skills, as this is not something I do in my day to day job. When doing my assignments, I found the course helped to improve my English and communication; giving me extra confidence with preparing letters, spreadsheets and emails.

How has this apprenticeship helped with your confidence?

This qualification has increased my confidence in the work place. Through work based learning, I have learnt to use my own initiative more, which makes me a valuable member of the team.

Throughout the course, my Trainer-Coach, Kush, was always encouraging and positive about my progress and achievements – which improved my confidence. Kush was very responsive to my queries and available when I needed her guidance.

What has been your proudest moment?

I felt really proud when I passed my exams and completed the training course.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoyed the interaction I had with study participants and my colleagues; and I felt lucky to be working in a friendly and supporting environment.  I enjoyed keeping accurate records and databases and ensuring I maintained a high standard in my work.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years?

I hope to still be working in research I found the industry very interesting; and I would like to progress further to more senior position.

What advice would you give someone starting out in their career?

Being committed to the qualification and having an assessor committed to your own development will help you do well and fully succeed. Also, try to find an environment you enjoy working in and work hard to the best of your ability.
