Who is eligible for training?
Generally for a learner to be eligible for a government funded work based training apprenticeship programme they would have to be employed by the yard for a minimum of 30 hours a week; paid in accordance with the current legislative wage requirements; be aged between 16-25 years old and receive a minimum of 16 hours training per week. (It should be stated here that there is a difference between an employee and a placement; this can be discussed further with a HT advisor.)
As a company and responsible for tax payers' money HT is monitored on retention, achievement and quality of training so the duration of stay of an individual would have to reflect the capabilities of the said person. In order for them to comply with our requirements they would be expected to achieve a Level 2 NVQ in Horse Care within 12 months.
