In January 2011 new standards were introduced for both Horse Care and Animal Care qualifications by QCF.
(Ofqual introduced the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) to increase flexibility for learners and employers). These standards are a new way of recognising skills and qualifications which are regulated by the government. It awards credit for qualifications and units (small steps or learning) They enable people to gain qualifications at their own pace along these flexible routes of learning. Learners are able to accumulate credit in small steps by completing units which they can then build into a full qualification.
There are Awards, Certificates and Diplomas at each level.
An Award is gained for between 1 and 12 credits
A Certificate is gained for between 13 and 36 credits
A Diploma is gained for 37 or more credits.
Haddon Training is currently supporting the Diploma. At Level 2 you are have three options:
Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care and Management (Horse Care and Management)
Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care and Management (Horse Care and Riding)
Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care and Management (Breeding)
There are seven Core Mandatory Units which have to be completed as the basis to which ever option you take. Thereafter there are number of mandatory and a number of optional units specific to your chosen option all of which are given specific credit value to make up the total credits required for your qualification.
The seven Core Mandatory Units at Level 2 are:
Clean and maintain stables
Provide feed and water to horses
Carry out routine care and monitor the health and well-being of horses
Restrain horses using specified methods
Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
Maintain and develop personal performance
Establish and maintain effective
