Opportunities for 14-16 Year Olds

Would you like to be able to start training towards a job now while you are still at school? Do you feel that you are currently not making the best of your natural abilities?

HT aims to help you if you are still at school, to have access to a flexible training programme so that you can achieve vocational qualifications in areas where you have a natural practical ability or keen interest. Once you have experienced a vocational training programme we hope that you will progress onto post 16 training.

Do you already work part-time or at weekends in your local pet shop or riding school? Have you always felt that they only thing you have really ever wanted was to work with horses, dogs or even snakes?

HT in conjunction with your parents and your school, may be able to help you to choose a vocational alternative to full time academic education so that you could achieve a work based qualification at your local riding school, boarding kennels, pet shop, livery yard, cattery or even zoo!

Speak to your school careers adviser. Your school may be keen to become involved in the 14-16 Year Olds, Increased Flexibility Programme, as they will want to enhance your progression through your school years and education. Your school will also be pleased if you embark on a training programme which can lead to qualifications and training after you are 16. They will recognise that work based training could be very beneficial to you, not only now but in years to come.

HT are currently working in partnership with Swindon College and a number of schools throughout Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Hampshire to promote the Increased Flexibility Partnership for 14-16 Year Olds. We are always pleased to hear from both schools and riding centres who are interested in promoting vocational skills for young people.

Students on the Increased Flexibility Partnership Programme are able to undertake their NVQ Level One in either Horse Care or Animal Care with HT.
