Saddlery and Harness Making

Haddon Training is delighted to be in partnership with The Saddlery Training Centre, based in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The Saddlery Training Centre aims to offer a flexible approach to individual training. The Apprenticeship Scheme is primarily designed for apprentices aged normally between 16 and 25 years.

Applicants for this training will normally have been employed for at least six months in order to ensure employers have sufficient time to establish aptitude and commitment.

The training takes the form of 16 one week modules spread over a three year period. Sessions are held at The Saddlery Training Centre and the training is delivered in small groups with normally a maximum of six trainees.

Apprenticeships have the requirement, not only of specific craft skills but also an awareness of key skills like literacy and numeracy. These Key Skills are supported and delivered by Haddon Training.

Mark Romain is a Director and Training Advisor of the Saddlery Training Centre. Mark has worked in the Saddlery trade for 31 years. During this time he has contributed to the training of over 130 apprentices and over 1,000 saddlery course candidates. He has visited Saddlery businesses all over England providing technical advice and guidance on matters from training and qualifications, to sources of supplies of materials and technical enquiry support. His understanding of the Saddlery Apprenticeship Schemes and General Saddlery course programmes is comprehensive, and he has been responsible for the implementation of the new Apprenticeship scheme developed by the Saddlers Company for the updating of the General Saddlery courses syllabus to meet the needs of the trade.
