
The Award in the Principles of Transporting Horses by Road on Short Journeys is designed for those transporting horses on journeys of over 65km, but not exceeding eight hours
In this Award the learner will be expected to:
- know the legal requirements and responsibilities covering horse health and welfare during transportation,
- understand horse stress and how to deal with it,
- know how to effectively plan and implement the transportation of horses,
- understand safe, efficient and effective loading, operation and control,
- understand the welfare requirements for horses before, during and after transportation.

The Award in the Principles of Transporting Horses by Road on Long Journeys is designed for those transporting horses on short and long journeys exceeding eight hours.
In this Award the learner (Attendant and Attendant/Driver) will be expected to:
- know the legislation and administrative procedures that govern the transport of horses,
- understand horse stress and how to avoid it,
- understand how to effectively plan and prepare for the transport of horses,
- be able to effectively plan and prepare for the transport of horses,
- be able to safely load and unload horses,
- be able to care for horses during transportation,
- maintain equine transport in a hygienic condition

Additionally those learners taking the above award as an Attendant/Driver will also be expected to:

To take either of these qualifications you must register through a British Horseracing Education & Standards Trust (BHEST) approved centre.
