Transport Qualifications
The Certificates of Competence required by the Welfare of Animals during Transport EU Regulations were formerly known as the Certificate in Equine Transport (CET) and the Advanced Certificate in Equine Transport (ACET).. These qualifications have been updated in line with QCF requirements and as of 1st January 2011 are known as The Award in the Principles of Transporting Horses by Road on Short Journeys and The Award in the Principles of Transporting Horses by Road on Long Journeys
The law for these transport certificates originally came into force on 30th April 2008. Individuals needed to have achieved the necessary qualification by that date - failure to do so could result in a fine and/or prosecution. This legislation still stands and it is as important now as it was then for individuals to take these qualifications or face the implications.
This legislation effects everyone who transports horses with the potential for "economic gain". This includes any prize money, any form of sponsorship or making profit on the sale of horses. Please read the DEFRA Guidance Notes at the bottom of this page to find out where you stand.
In order to accommodate the large numbers of individuals wanting to take their tests, Haddon Training initially organised days test days for groups of no less than 8 people, however now that the urgency has diminished we can offer test dates to smaller groups at their own yards as well as to individuals.
Costs vary depending on whether the test takes place at your yard or a location of ours, and whether funding is available or not. Please contact Jane on 01672 519977 or email: jane.copsey@haddontraining.co.uk and she will be able to help you.
