More about Thurleigh Equestrian Centre
Thurleigh Equestrian Centre offer a unique and supportive environment for young people who may be struggling with mainstream education or need emotional and mental health support. Through their ‘Progressive Strides’ Alternative Provision programmes they use their horses as a therapeutic and educational resource to help students re-engage, build confidence, and flourish.
The specialist team has extensive experience working with young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. The team all understand that traditional education isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, which is why their approach is tailored, hands-on, and flexible.
Each programme is individually designed to support personal development, life skills, and learning through structured horse care activities and one-to-one sessions. By creating a calm and nurturing environment, their programmes encourage each young person to make meaningful progress at their own pace.
Beth Maloney, Owner and Director at Thurleigh Equestrian Centre also brings a wealth of experience to this role. She is a qualified teacher, has led equine departments and worked as Assistant Principal in large land-based colleges. She was also the Non-Executive Director of Participation at the British Equestrian Federation and has published various equine books. Beth is also the senior instructor at Thurleigh Equestrian Centre. She is a BHS Accredited Professional Coach, holds the BHSII (SM), and a Calm Coaching Certificate and has a particular focus on building skills and confidence in her learners.
