From Passion to Profession: Claire’s apprenticeship at the RSPCA

Claire is a dedicated animal care professional with a lifelong passion for helping animals. She has recently embarked on her Level 3 Animal Care and Welfare Manager apprenticeship with Haddon Training, building on a 28-year career with the RSPCA.

We spoke to Claire about her journey in the animal welfare sector, her experience with the apprenticeship, and her exciting new role supporting animal fostering initiatives.

What inspired you to pursue a career working with animals?

I have wanted to work with animals since I was really young. I have been very lucky in my career with the RSPCA and have been with the society for 28 years. I have loved working for the charity. I have played a number of roles during this time and find so much satisfaction when you help an animal who has been neglected to blossom and find their new loving home. There is no feeling like it.

What have you enjoyed most about your Level 3 Animal Care and Welfare Manager qualification and your work placement?

I am still very new to my apprenticeship, but I am really enjoying learning again.

What achievement are you most proud of so far?

I have performed a number of roles in my time with the society, and my most recent achievement is that I was chosen to help run a fostering pilot. We are currently in crisis with a large number of animals, and by placing them into fostering, it allows us to help more. It’s a really exciting opportunity.

How has your experience been as an apprentice with Haddon Training?

Brilliant so far. Katie, my Trainer Coach, has been fantastic and really helpful.

What are your goals for the future?

To continue with the work I do. I cannot see myself leaving the society anytime soon; it’s more of a life choice now.
