Meet Maddie, who is currently completing her Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship through Haddon Training at Chadwells Stud. Maddie shares her lifelong passion for horses, the highlights of her apprenticeship experience, and her exciting ambitions for the future.
What inspired you to pursue a career working with horses?
I have been passionate about horses my whole life. From a young age, I began riding and helping out at riding schools. I wanted to increase my knowledge of horses and have always been intrigued by the lifecycle of horses. I had other hobbies along the way, but I always ended up going back to horses and horse riding. This was a clear sign for me that I wanted to learn more about horses and their development.
What aspects of your Level 2 Equine Groom qualification have you enjoyed the most and working at Chadwells Stud?
I am really enjoying learning about foaling and being able to be so close to the foals when they are so young. Before starting my apprenticeship, I had never even seen a foal up close. Now, I am handling foals from a young age and seeing things I have never seen before.
What achievement are you most proud of to date?
I am proud of the progress I have made in expanding my knowledge of horses. Before this apprenticeship, I had minimal knowledge about horses, but as the time goes on my knowledge of horses is increasing daily.
What has your experience been like as an apprentice with Haddon Training?
My experience as an apprentice with Haddon training has been amazing. I am thoroughly enjoying the apprenticeship and especially value the time spent with my Trainer Coach, Sarah, learning new skills and expanding my knowledge.
What are your aspirations for the future?
In the future, I would love to own my own breeding yard and have lots of foals just like Chadwells Stud. I aspire to follow in the footsteps of my boss, Julia, and dream of running a stud farm of my own in the future.
