Freddie’s Experience as a Racing Apprentice

Freddie is currently completing his Level 2 Racing Groom apprenticeship at Keighley Racing, where he is gaining hands-on experience in the industry while working towards his goal of becoming a professional jockey. Growing up in a racing family, Freddie has always had a strong connection to the sport and is now building his career within it.

What inspired you to pursue a career in racing?

I was born into a racing family – my mum and dad train – so it’s always been in the blood.

What have you enjoyed the most about your apprenticeship?

Being able to have a job in the racing industry and pursue my jockey career, while also being able to work and not still have to be at school.

Have you faced or overcome any challenges during your apprenticeship? If so, how did you manage them?

No, it’s all been fairly straightforward. But if I have had any problems, I just ask – everyone is very helpful.

How has your experience been as an apprentice with Haddon Training?

It’s been plain sailing, really very easy.

What are your aspirations for the future?

To try and properly make it as a jump jockey and see where that takes me.
