As part of Good Employment Week, we’re celebrating Sheepcote Equestrian, a centre renowned for its long-standing commitment to developing talented riders and supporting the next generation of equestrian professionals. We spoke to David Pincus, owner of Sheepcote Equestrian, to learn more about the business and his experience supporting apprentices.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your history in the industry and your business?
We have been running Sheepcote since 1980 and, during that time, we have contributed to the successes of many riders, including Olympic and international riders in dressage and eventing. Our Facebook page highlights recent results with many of our current and former students, several on our horses.
When did you first start hiring apprentices, and what motivated you to take this step?
We have been offering training for young people since the start of our business. Some have joined recognised programmes through colleges, universities, or apprenticeship schemes, and others have come to us to improve their competition competence over short or long periods.
What benefits have you seen in your business from having apprentices on your team?
Being responsible for the training of the next generation of professionals ensures that we continually develop and maintain an up-to-date standard in our delivery and self-development.
How has your experience been working with Haddon Training?
Haddon Training takes the hassle away from running the apprenticeship programme. They take care of many aspects of the programme and leave us to do what is our expertise – practical instruction in the arena and yard.
