Mon Motors: Developing Their Team Through our Business Qualifications

We’re proud to work in partnership with Mon Motors to support the development of their team through our Business qualifications, helping employees build their skills, knowledge and confidence while gaining recognised qualifications alongside their roles.

We spoke to Jason Borgden, Group Trainer and Performance Coach at Mon Motors, about their approach to developing their people, the benefits they’ve seen from investing in Business qualifications and their experience of working with us.

What inspired you to pursue the Level 3 Business Administration qualification?

I’ve been with Mon Motors for over nine years now, having come from an educational and adult commercial training background. In that time, our business has grown considerably – and so have our training and development needs. Across the business, we have colleagues in team leadership positions who are responsible for helping others deliver high-quality, customer-focused outcomes. Supporting them in that role is our responsibility as a business.

Working with training partners like Haddon Training, we’ve been able to make the most of the apprenticeship route – combining internal development with externally recognised leadership qualifications that explore the real situations our leaders face in their day-to-day roles. By co-ordinating this approach across the whole business, my aim is to give everyone a clear development path. Our focus on growing our own talent reflects what we stand for as a company.

What motivated Mon Motors to invest in Business qualifications for your team?

As our business has grown, so have our training and development needs. We wanted to support colleagues in team leadership positions by giving them the opportunity to develop their skills, build their confidence and gain recognised qualifications alongside their existing roles.

The apprenticeship route has allowed us to combine internal development with structured learning, giving our leaders the opportunity to explore real situations they face in their day-to-day roles.

What benefits have you seen from developing your employees through the programme?

Each learner takes something different from the learning and qualification. For some, it’s the capability to lead effectively and manage their team in a thoughtful, conscientious manner. For others, it’s the confidence to recognise they can be great managers, giving them a new perspective on the leadership decisions they make.

For some, it’s also about recognition and personal development – the feeling of having been noticed within the organisation and given the opportunity to work towards their next step. As a business, the benefit we see is that this investment in people supports retention – but more than that, it builds a team, a family, genuinely invested in the business.

How has your experience been working with Haddon Training?

Our situation was particularly challenging, with learners based in both England and Wales working to different assessment criteria. Haddon Training were keen to work with us as genuine partners, developing a course that met both schemes while still bringing all of our learners together.

Engaging people who are also managing full-time jobs alongside their studies means they need to see real value in what they’re doing – and the Haddon Training Trainer Coaches have been excellent in supporting each of our learners as individuals, recognising their different learning capabilities and needs.
