What inspired you to pursue a career with horses?
I have always enjoyed being around horses and spending time with them. I feel really lucky that I could pursue it as a job and spend as much time with them as I do, while also learning about them.
What does a typical day look like for you as an apprentice?
As an apprentice, my day usually looks like turning out all the horses in the morning and then mucking out and getting the yard clean and sorted. We then get on with working the horses, so that could be lunging, hacking, schooling, bathing, etc. By the end of the day, we get the yard straight, so we do things such as haying up, feeding, fetching in, rugs and feet, and skipping out.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship? Do you have any proud moments?
The thing I have most enjoyed about the apprenticeship is creating a bond with all the horses and spending time with them, as well as learning about them and improving my riding and knowledge when riding.
Have you faced or overcome any challenges during your apprenticeship?
I have faced a lot of issues with my confidence, as I have struggled with confidence in myself. But with help from Esther, Hannah my Trainer Coach and the team at work, I feel much more confident in myself and my riding.
How has your experience been as an apprentice with Haddon Training?
I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship with Haddon Training, as I feel like I have learnt so much and have had the support I needed with things that I wasn’t sure about. Hannah, my Haddon Trainer Coach, has been so supportive throughout and has always given me a positive working environment and support system.
What are your future aspirations?
Next, I would like to get my Class 1 and 2 licence. I am happy at Shaw Farm and plan to stay here.
